Notes

Wife of Marum Oppenheimer, mother of Joseph Marum Oppenheimer
Already referenced in Joseph Marum's notes
Appears on the engraved Stammbaum der Familie Oppenheimer, Michelfeld (AR 11074): her shield reads 'Brendel Babette … 1819 … verm. III 1843 … Marum Oppenheimer'. The March 1843 marriage matches the date of 8 March 1843 already recorded here from a separate source, which is what identifies the shield as hers.
STRUCTURAL: she was therefore a MICHELFELD Oppenheimer, a descendant of Zacharias, and her marriage to Marum Oppenheimer of Gemmingen joins the two branches a second time — independently of their shared descent from Loeb Oppenheimer (~1720) through his sons Minkel and Hayyim.
Her parents are not recorded: which of Zacharias's six children she descends from cannot be read at the resolution of LBI's microfilm scan. [read from the engraved Stammbaum (AR 11074) by vision model; not yet verified against the original]
PARENTAGE: daughter of Simon Wolf Oppenheimer of Michelfeld, son of Zacharias. Geni's Simon Wolf has a daughter Brendel Babette born 1819; this archive independently records a Brendel Babette who married Marum Oppenheimer in March 1843, the couple shown on the Michelfeld Stammbaum. Name, birth year and husband all agree. [Geni curated master profile, retrieved 2 August 2026]
DATE CONFLICT, unresolved: this archive holds her as born 22 February 1819 and died 27 January 1900 at Gemmingen. Geni gives 14 October 1819 and 3 November 1893. The chart's shield reads 'geb. ?.X.1819', an October date, agreeing with Geni against the record here. The existing dates have been left untouched pending a document that settles it — a Gemmingen civil register entry would.
NEXT STEP: her marriage to Marum Oppenheimer in March 1843 should appear in the Michelfeld Standesbuch 1831–1846 (GLA Karlsruhe 390 Nr. 4773), which is digitised. That entry would settle the conflict between the dates held here (b. 22 February 1819, d. 27 January 1900) and those on Geni and the Stammbaum (b. 14 October 1819), and would confirm or refute Simon Wolf Oppenheimer as her father.

  • LBI AR 11074 / MF 1351 — Stammbaum der Familie Oppenheimer, Michelfeld — Engraved family tree of the Michelfeld Oppenheimers, dedicated to the family by Dr. med. Eduard Oppenheimer (Strassburg), Jakob Oppenheimer (Bruchsal) and Dr. jur. Eugen Oppenheimer (Heilbronn); drawn by K. Nagel, Karlsruhe. Centres on a portrait of Zacharias Oppenheimer (1773–1827) and his wife Fratel, with shields for his parents Hajum and Brendel and his grandparents Loeb and Kehle, and several hundred descendant shields. Includes views of the Geburtshaus and the Michelfeld factory. A copy is also held in AR 7044, folder 1/13.
  • GLA Karlsruhe 390 — Michelfeld Standesbücher 1808–1875 (Nr. 4772–4776) — Civil registers of the evangelical and Israelite congregations of Michelfeld, held by the Landesarchiv Baden-Württemberg, Abt. Generallandesarchiv Karlsruhe, Bestand 390, within the Amtsgerichtsbezirk Sinsheim series. FIVE volumes, all digitised: Nr. 4772 (1808–1830), Nr. 4773 (1831–1846), Nr. 4774 (1847–1865), Nr. 4775 (1866–1870), Nr. 4776 (1870–1875). From 1810 to 1870 Baden required its rabbis to keep birth, marriage and death registers in duplicate, one copy going to the district office; Bestand 390 preserves them. PARTIALLY EXAMINED, NOTHING YET CORROBORATED. Nr. 4772 (406 images) was sampled at pages 5, 200, 300, 380, 388, 394 and 400 and is evangelical throughout — Christian names, baptisms, entries signed by the pastor Bilthaler, and a closing index of Christian surnames only. The Israelite entries its title promises were not found in the sampled portion; they may lie in a section not yet located or in a separate Judenstandesbuch series. The volumes that matter for this archive remain Nr. 4772, which would cover Zacharias's death in 1827, Brendel's in 1819 and Brendel Babette's birth in 1819, and Nr. 4773, which would cover Brendel Babette's marriage in March 1843 — the entry that would settle her conflicting dates and confirm or refute Simon Wolf as her father.
